Since our founding in 2011, we have acquired a vast archive of resources and learning materials from our summer academies, regional academies and community exchanges, as well as our newsletters, social media channels and via our ever-growing alumni who regularly share publications, articles, book recommendations and much more with us. The Global Environments Network Research and Practice Pillar is made up of four categories: GEN Toolkits, GEN Resources/Library, GEN Newsletters and Alumni Publications.
GEN TOOLKITS
moreWe are developing toolkits, which will be practical ‘how-to’ guides and bodies of research, with tried-and-tested resources and tools for those working for social and ecological justice and positive change.
GEN Toolkit #1: Weaving Grief, the Body and Transformative Justice is an 18-month collaboration between GEN and Camille Barton, founder of The Collective Liberation Project. Since February 2020, Camille has been writing regular journal entries sharing insights and reflections from the research, as well as her own lived experience during the turbulent times of COVID-19 and recent Black Lives Matter actions/campaign. In June 2021, we hosted a residential retreat, exploring how embodied grief practices can support environmental advocacy and transformative justice in the UK context. The retreat prioritised people with recent ancestral histories of migration or colonisation, and provided the opportunity to put into practice the grief toolkit research. Read more.
We are currently in the process of designing and fundraising for more toolkits, to start in late 2021, exploring the themes of communicating and truth telling in times of polarity and overcoming oppression and working with race, gender and difference. RESOURCES LIBRARY
moreThe GEN Resources Library includes reading and resource lists from previous GEN events, as well as content shared by our members and networks of support and collaboration. The library is an ongoing work in progress, and is ordered by either a GEN event cohort i.e. GESA 2018, or a themed reading list i.e. ‘Black History Month Library’ or ‘Climate change adaptation’. We are always looking to expand our pedagogical breadth and depth, and challenge and explore alternative worldviews and approaches, so we welcome new entries.
GEN NEWSLETTERS
moreTo foster learning, mutual support and collaboration among GEN members, we circulate frequent GEN in Action newsletters to share opportunities for engagement, as well as new and inspiring resources relevant to our members. Whilst GEN in Action newsletters are exclusive to members, we also share selected information, including announcements on upcoming GEN events, with our wider community through periodic public GEN Community newsletters.
